Why do airlines say, "be sure to put on your oxygen mask before assisting others"?

If you don't take care of yourself, how are you going to take care of others?

If you don't take care of yourself, how are you going to take care of others?  Parents who feed their children cereal and processed sugar water (carton milk) for breakfast each morning would have a DYFS agent sent to their house if I had anything to do it.  Children learn from their parents all their behaviors and traits, including their diet and exercise habits.  When you show your child that it is "normal" to eat cake and cookies for breakfast or any meal for that matter, you child grows up thinking that it is "normal" and keeps on repeating the insanity for all their life.  Some form of Dis-ease usually steps in after a while and gets you to stop and think of what you may be doing wrong.  Think of your dis-ease as a huge warning light on your car's dashboard.  You don't simply place a piece of tape over the light to mask it right? You get to the root cause of why the light went on in the first place.  Getting the facts on why your body is dis-functioning takes a real health sleuth to figure it out.  If you are only looking at the warning light (symptom) you are missing the entire human organism.  We always say, "don't treat the disease that has the patient, but rather coach the patient who has the disease". Sometimes it's as simple as slowing down enough to figure out you are missing one of the 4 doctors in your life
