Tired? Stressed? Maybe Adrenal Fatigued?
Dry mouth can equate fight or flight
Our bodies have many signs it gives us when it is under stress. A very common one that people over-look and dismiss for being dehydrated is dryness in the mouth/tongue. Digestion begins in the mouth with saliva (After vision of course - seeing the food actually begins our digestive processes). When saliva production drops, it means your digestion is dismissed from going "sympathetic". This means fight or flight or stress mode. Digestion only works in a parasympathetic pathway. Essentially, digestion is looked at as less important when under stress because of our millions of years of evolution. Running from a lion, tiger or bear has more precedence than digestion so it shuts off to feed more blood to muscles so that we can run faster or longer to get away from the "predator". So, the next time you get dry mouth, ask yourself if you are stressed, or are working too hard that your body perceives it as stress. Working too hard could mean thinking really hard, working out in the gym too hard, rushing your eating, spending money you don't have, or anything else that leaves your body tired when you do it for prolonged periods of time.
