Qi Gong to work in - not work out
Are you working-in or working-out today?
Paul Chek - Demonstrating a form of Qi Gong
What is working-in? It just means to cultivate more energy in your body than you had prior to the exercise. After most workouts, you feel left with just enough energy to walk to your car to leave the gym. Most people who come to us are already over stressed, over-worked, over-exercise, and have one or more injuries. Does this sound like someone I would throw a blood, sweat, and tears workout at? Examples of working-in is Qi Gong, Tai Chi, meditation, very gentle walking, and simply diaphragmatic breath work. All of these forms are recommended for individuals who are on the brink of breaking. They all cultivate energy to allow for stress relief. Working-in is more effective for weight loss than working-out. Qi Gong is a gentle movement form that keeps your body moving under no stress. Your muscles still fire and pump the system, but you do not raise your heart rate. You can and will sweat from doing this movement form, but the body does not perceive this as stressful. If your heart rate remains as low as possible while moving, you allow your body to remain parasympathetic (relaxed). This allows for proper digestion, muscle recovery, better brain function, normal diaphragmatic breathing, and lowered overall stress.
