Fat Facts Part 1: Saturated Fat Fallacy
Whats the real deal with saturated fat?
Just thinking about saturated fat makes people cringe, and for good reason. We have been told since the 1940s to avoid artery clogging saturated fats because they raise cholesterol and heart disease risk. How did america do with that advice? We followed it so well that we went from consuming almost 15 pounds of butter per year per person in the 40s to less than 5 lbs from the 70s to present day, and guess what? According to the CDC, heart disease is now the leading cause of death in the united states. When you take a closer look at the differences in our food system between the early 1900s and now, you'll see a shift from locally raised and pastured animals to animals that are so far removed from nature that they most be given copious amounts of medication and hormones to survive. Saturated fat is not the problem, the quality of the fats in the food is.
